Rome’s airport is a hub, with many flights from the U.S. Most flights leave in the evening from the East Coast of the US, and arrive in Rome the next morning. Direct flight time from NYC area is about 8-9 hours. To arrive on September 16, you must leave the U.S. on September 15. The first day of our workshop will be to relax and settle in.
Departure from La Polledrara will be early in the morning on Sept 25, depending on flight times of guests. The last day of our workshop, Sept 24, will allow time for packing.
We will pick you up at Leonardo da Vinci airport on September 16. You must send us your flight info. On September 25, we will bring you back to the airport for your return flight, or if you are planning to remain in Italy to travel elsewhere we can drop you at the nearest train station, Colleferro, where you can train to Rome’s central station, Termini for transportation throughout Italy. We are happy to advise you how to get around Italy.
Please advise us below or via email of any special dietary restrictions or requirements. We will do our best to accommodate your needs. As you might expect, pasta and pizza is part of the menu at nearly all restaurants, but there are some gluten free options becoming more available.
You must bring your own supplies for drawing and painting. If you plan to use an easel, we recommend a lightweight metal folding easel. We will have paper towels, containers for water if needed, and folding chairs for use outdoors. As for your choice of media, we recommend thinking “light!” If you would like to use oils or acrylics, bringing basic colors is wise. Water soluble oils are a good substitute for traditional oils and do not require flammable mediums which are not permitted on flights. We usually bring our paints in checked luggage to avoid possible confiscation at customs. Please contact Nancy to discuss your choice of media. Since work completed in Italy must be packed, working in portable sizes and lightweight surfaces in recommended.
