The leader of the art workshop for Discover Ciociaria is Nancy Campbell. This will be Nancy’s fifth workshop in Italy, though she has travelled there many times previously. During the past trips, Nancy has pared down her own supply list with the idea of traveling light. She is an oil painter, but when traveling, will be primarily recording images and impressions in a sketchbook, and with small scale watercolor or gouache sketches. These drawings and sketches provide a visual record from which later paintings and prints can be created.
Participants must bring their own supplies, and may work in their own choice of media, with direction on composition, simplification and color choices. Portability of materials is a definite plus for working outdoors! Chairs are provided. Beginners are welcome, and the small number of participants ensures attention to each. Nancy will work with each artist in helping him/her reach a satisfying expression of their individual artistic sensibility and will advise each on what supplies might best suit their needs.
Each morning after breakfast, the group will either paint on site at La Polledrara or be driven to another location nearby. Most of our painting spots are within 20-30 minutes from our home base. Lunch will be either a picnic, or, depending on location, at a nearby restaurant. On occasion, local artists have joined us! The first and last days of the trip will be for resting and packing with one day in the middle of our stay reserved for a day trip.
